Do you have an idea for a novel? Are you curious what makes a novel tick? Do you have questions about how to consider your ideas and decide which story to begin? In this class, you'll make an idea a reality, your work-in-progress a finished book.

We'll look at some masterful novels from authors like Margaret Atwood, Italo Calvino, and Stephen King to consider how they used structure so to help find ideas for your own writing.  Let's unpack  the novel writing process, from beginning steps to your final draft, and we’ll also discuss your ideas for plot, dialogue, character, voice and how they will fit within your novel.

In this class, you will consider and create your own plan for writing and taking your novel to its conclusion. We will utilize writing prompts that may become scenes within your own book, and we will examine strengths and weaknesses through shared feedback.

Writers of all genres and levels are welcome. The goal of this course is to have a better grasp on the novel writing process, structure, and most important of all the enthusiasm to finish your book. Students will receive personalized feedback from the instructor on submitted work.
