The Writing Institute at Sarah Lawrence College is pleased to announce its 6th Annual Publish and Promote Your Book Conference on Saturday, June 22nd.  This comprehensive writer’s conference will be held at the Sarah Lawrence College campus, located 30 minutes from Midtown Manhattan.

Highlights of the conference include a series of interactive panel discussions with prominent New York City literary agents, major publishing house editors, and public relations professionals; a networking lunch with panelists (new this year); and the rare opportunity to pitch your book directly to agents and editors. Participants will have the chance to promote their books to agents and editors in face-to-face pitch sessions. Writers who have registered for the conference have the option to discuss their work with two agents or editors for 10 minutes each (included in the cost of registration).

Want to practice your pitch and receive guidance to help you draft it? Sign up for one of our Prepare Your Pitch workshops before the conference. You can choose from four sessions: Wednesday, June 12thWednesday, June 19thThursday, June 20th ONLINE, and Friday, June 21st. You can also receive feedback on the first page of your manuscript at How to Win an Agent with Your First Page on Wednesday, June 5th.

Your pitch is the verbal presentation you’ll give to each agent/editor you meet with and should include relevant information about your book and your bio, including your name and your book’s title. We ask that you type up your pitch—12-point font, double-spaced, 1-inch margins—and no longer than one page so that the agent/editor you’re meeting with can refer to it during and after your verbal presentation. Bring 2 printed copies of your pitch and 2 printed copies of the first page of your manuscript (also in 12-point font, double-spaced, 1-inch margins) to the conference on June 22 and hand them in at the Registration Table when you check-in.

The 6th Annual Sarah Lawrence College Publish and Promote Your Book Conference is small, with limited attendance by design, allowing writers and guests the opportunity to meet, talk, and enjoy our special community of writers. Space is limited and early registration is highly recommended.
