Sarah Lawrence College
1 Mead Way
Bronxville, NY 10708
United States

Instructor: Jennifer Manocherian
Length: 11 sessions, $660

Class is limited to five students.

This class is hands on, designed for students committed to writing the first draft of a screenplay from fade in to fade out, starting with a short film, which requires many of the all the basics of a feature film. The class will begin by reviewing an already thought through synopsis and nailing down the character arcs, then proceeding act by act until the resolution. Students will be expected to bring in copies of their work each week to be read out loud, followed by feedback. There will be little time for rewriting based on said feedback, but whatever is learned in class about the characters and/or plot can inform the next act.

Prerequisite: Students who have taken So You Actually Think You Want To Write A Screenplay or it’s equivalent and have a sense of the story they want to tell incorporating the necessary plot-character arcs. A phone interview will be required.

Jennifer Manocherian has been a theatre producer for thirty years and moonlights writing. She wrote and produced the film "Family Blues," which can be streamed online on many movie websites, and currently has a few screenplays in development. She wrote the book of the musical MARRY HARRY under her maiden name Jennifer Robbins, which has been produced regionally and at the York Theatre in New York City. www.marryharry.com. She is on the board of New York Stage & Film, a non-profit devoted to developing new works.
