Our Open House offers you a great way to meet both our faculty and many of the writers who attend classes at The Writing Institute. If you don’t know it already, there are three secrets to being a good writer—Write. Read. And hang around with other writers! Our faculty who will be reading at the Open House span genres from fiction to memoir to screenwriting. This is your opportunity to meet them in person and network with the most unique and wonderful group of writers ever.

By the way, can you identify which of our faculty wrote each of these?

    1. One of my earliest memories is of the coolness of his white button down shirt against my cheek when I run into his arms. I’m three years old.
    2. Clarice knows that her sensitivity to animals makes her different from other kids—and not necessarily in a good way. She hasn’t gotten her driver’s license because she worries about hitting frogs and turtles in the road.
    3. Hoping to help their marriage, a Manhattan lawyer brings her burned-out husband to her mother's home upstate.
    4. He says, “I’ll have a Tequila Daisy. Don’t have that? How about a Bearded Lady?” He looks at me mischievously. He is unshaven, white stubble on flushed skin. My mother also looks at me. “The new normal,” she says.
    5. Already only a step away from being snagged in her own web of lies, Ellie’s deceit threatens to spin out of control when Hugh’s mother invites Ellie and her sisters to a house party.

Not sure? Come to the Open House and hear from faculty members Elf Ahearn, Jimin Han, Jennifer Manocherian, Wendy Townsend, and Amy Beth Wright. We’ll let you know if you guessed right.
