It’s hard to go on a long hike without a map. It’s also hard to write a successful story without a strong understanding of your plot. There are many resources out there about plot, but how do you apply it to your novel, memoir, or short story? Through a process of writing exercises, mind-mapping (a brainstorming technique), plot-graphing, and synopsis outlining, you will reconnect with your writing project and fully realize its potential. Writers will come away with a clear sense of their plot, a synopsis outline, the start of a chapter outline, and the next steps to take. Open to writers of all levels in any stage of manuscript.

Veera Hiranandani is the author of The Night Diary (Kokila), a Newbery Honor book, which was featured on NPR's Weekend Edition and is a New York Times Editor's Choice Pick, The Whole Story of Half a Girl (Yearling), which was named a Sydney Taylor Notable Book and a South Asian Book Award Finalist, and the chapter book series, Phoebe G. Green (Grosset & Dunlap). She earned her MFA in fiction writing at Sarah Lawrence College. A former book editor at Simon & Schuster, she now teaches creative writing and is working on her next novel.
