    The essay is a haven for the private idiosyncratic voice in an era of anonymous babble, says Scott Russell Sanders and he's right. In this workshop you will develop that voice, the persona to the “I” so crucial to the personal essay and the memoir and longer form reflective nonfiction. We'll try some exercises to generate new richer material, a wider and deeper sense of the genre, sharpen our creative skills giving insightful and supportive critique and have fun as we limn just what makes our nonfiction quirky yet engaging, quietly personal yet exciting, and altogether engaging on the page.



    Peter Bricklebank has published fiction in such as The American Voice, Carolina Quarterly, Mid-American Review, Kansas Quarterly, Confrontation, Fiction, and nonfiction in The New York Times Book Review, the American Book Review, The Chicago Tribune. His chapter on writing essay and memoir appears in The Portable MFA (Writers Digest Books), and his latest nonfiction appears in the inaugural issue of Two Bridges Review (http://2bridgesreview.blogspot.com/).  He has received a New York Foundation for the Arts fellowship in fiction.  He  has taught private writing workshops in NYC and in Oaxaca and Morelia (Mexico) and at New York University and elsewhere, including a year as Nonfiction writer-in-residence at Central Connecticut State University.   He taught fiction and nonfiction at Bar-Ilan University in Israel and taught at the Festival of Writers, Rensselaerville, New York.
