The Five-Day Documentary Diary is a five-day, non-fiction workshop where each day you will write a 1-2 page documentary-style diary about real events, writing about something wonderful, unusual and real about your day, your life, or the world. We will meet in the morning each day as a group to learn about documenting real life stories, and then you will return to your creative space to write. In the next day’s session, you will share work with fellow classmates. At the end of the five days, you will have written a weeklong series of slice of life “documentaries diaries” that will shine a light on your unique day and your experiences, while taking stock of each moment. For creators, these 1-2 page real stories diaries can be transformed into 1-2 minute mini documentary films.

This class is designed for young writers and creators who love true storytelling. The focus of the workshop will be on creating and documenting authentic and true stories.

Taught by two-time Sundance award-winning producer/director/writer and SLC professor/alum, Heather Winters (Executive Producer Oscar® nominated “Super Size Me,” “TWO: The Story of Roman & Nyro,” “The Rest I Make Up,” “Class Act,” “Convention,” “Google Me,” “Anywhere USA,” “ThunderCats,” “MTV’s Real World.”)
