The popularity of audio books and the decline of the traditional broadcast media have teamed up to create a new market for consumers of stories of all sorts, from breaking news to campfire favorites. Learn how you can create and use podcasts to enhance your writing career, broadcast your message and maybe provide you with a new revenue stream. This five session course will expose you to a variety of podcast styles and teach you how to write for the ear instead of the page. You will learn how to use your voice as an instrument, the proper placement of a microphone, and how to use basic computer software to record, edit and package your piece. At the end of this course you will have completed your first podcast. Bring your laptops.Susan DeWalt is a news writer, reporter and student of life. Susan has over 25 years of experience writing, reporting and anchoring broadcast news in both local and national news rooms. Susan worked for the ABC Radio Network from 1995- 2001 when she took a sabbatical from the industry to raise her son. Most recently Susan has been working as a freelance news anchor at several radio stations in Connecticut. Susan has taught Broadcast News Writing at the Connecticut School of Broadcasting in the 1990’s. Susan uses her expert knowledge and experience in the broadcasting industry to create podcasts.
