Book Marketing 101 is a 5-part series that will focus each week on ways to accelerate your marketing skills to better promote yourself as an author - and successfully market your book. Through collaborative exercises, students will gain an in-depth and insider understanding on how to be a smarter, more informed author in the publication process. In addition, students will receive actionable tools they can deploy today. Each class will built on a core topic along with discussion and ideation through hands-on exercises. The program includes:

    • Behind the Scenes of Book Marketing. Learn how and why decisions are made at larger publishers. What are the marketing and promotion touch points along your writing, acquisition, and publication journey - and how you can prepare for them.
    • Branding Yourself as an Author. Gain insight into how you can stick out from other authors with strategies to establish yourself in the marketplace.
    • Author Platform. Visualize your future author platform. You will define what you can do now to get noticed by an agent and what you can do in the future to get more book sales.
    • Positioning. Positioning is used in query letters, acquisition, sell-in, and media. It is one of the most important aspects that authors can own in establishing their book and themselves. Students will write and workshop their own positioning.
    • Marketing Tips, Tools, and Materials. You will be given access to some of the simplest, free, and low cost ways of amplifying your book sales. This includes social media, book events, reviews, video, and digital promo materials.

By the end of the series, all students leave the course with a positioning statement (for queries and/or media pitches), author bio, platform strategy, social media approach and action steps to get their writing career accelerated.
