    United States

    Instructor: Jennifer Manocherian
    Length: 5 sessions, $450
    Fridays,  2:30 PM - 4:30 PM

    (4/6, 13, 20, 27; 5/4)

This class is limited to six students.

This course is aimed at helping students decide what is involved in actually writing a screenplay. Class discussion will involve further development of or finding a story worth telling, who are the characters and how do they change from start to end (their arcs), same with plot, the three act structure and what has to happen in each act, the genre, what film or films they may have seen that could serve as a model, and the theme and message they may want to convey.  Class exercises will focus on creating the backbone of the arc of the story as well as developing profiles for their main characters – where they are at the start, what makes them tick, what obstacles they face, their interrelationships and where they are at the end.  By the end each student will hopefully have a better understanding of the mechanics of writing a screenplay, will have written a brief synopsis and will know if they want to actually write a screenplay.

Everyone should watch the film “Confirmation” starring Clive Owens, available on Netflix and Amazon Video, as it be used as a teaching tool.
