YA fiction continues to surge in popularity, but what makes writing for teens different from writing for adults? In this course we will focus on those differences in voice, pacing, and subject matter, along with addressing general fiction craft elements such as plot, setting, narrative arc, and point of view. Whether you’re just toying with an idea or working on a draft in progress, writers will have the opportunity to workshop their writing in a safe, supportive space and receive feedback from the group and the instructor. Writing prompts and exercises will also be used. Open to writers of all levels.

Veera Hiranandani earned her MFA in creative writing at Sarah Lawrence College. She is the author of The Whole Story of Half a Girl (Delacorte Press), which was named a Sydney Taylor Notable Book and a South Asian Book Award Finalist. She is also the author of the chapter book series, Phoebe G. Green (Grosset & Dunlap). A former book editor at Simon & Schuster, she now teaches creative writing and is working on her next novel.
