    Instructor: DeMisty Bellinger
    6 hour one-day session
One VIRTUAL workshop date as follows:
    February 20
Workshop is limited to 15 registrants

In this class, we will look at poetry grounded in historical subjects. We will explore historical poetry through definition and examples, including work by Honorée Jeffers, Peter Balakian, Natasha Trethewey, Alex Dimitrov, Rita Dove, Kevin Young, and more. We will briefly discuss research and how much of a role should research play in creating these poems. Students will brainstorm individually source material for historical poetry. Finally, students will have time to compose and share a poem based on history.

Her chapbook, Rubbing Elbows, is available at Finishing Line Press and her full-length book of poetry, Peculiar Heritage, is forthcoming with Mason Jar Press.
