    Course Description
    As an aspiring published author, did you know you should be marketing your book, even before you finish it? How can you position your book and your career as a published author to be setup for success in a digital age?

    This introduction “crash” course provides the fundamentals of what is involved in marketing, promoting, and publicizing your book and you - as the author. Students will learn how to find their own, authentic way to jumpstart their promotion while gaining some of the insider secrets in the publishing industry on how to build a successful author career. 

    Through collaborative exercises, students will gain an in-depth understanding on how to be a smarter, more informed author in the publication process. In addition, students will receive actionable tools they can deploy today. Discussions and exercises include:

    * Positioning yourself to agents, publishers, and readers

    * Branding yourself as an author

    * Marketing tricks to boost awareness online and on social media

    Writers who are working on their manuscript and writers who have just completed their manuscript and are looking to solicit agents.      

    Your Instructor
    Mindy Stockfield is the former Senior Vice President of Marketing at Scholastic and head of marketing for Hyperion. She has held senior positions in publishing, entertainment and media with a focus on marketing, and digital - leading critical launches for a number of new and culture-defining initiatives. Coming fresh from working several years at Scholastic, she has driven these A-list publishing brands including: Harry Potter, Dog Man, The Babysitters Club, and Goosebumps as well as helped to build the careers of emerging authors. In addition, she has worked with top authors and talent including Mitch Albom, Caroline Kennedy, Maria Shriver, Michael J. Fox, and Jamie Oliver. Prior to Scholastic, she held prior senior roles at MTV, Disney, and Cartoon Network. She is currently an Adjunct Professor at NYU, Newhouse School of Communications at Syracuse University, and Marist College as well as an instructor at the Writing Institute at Sarah Lawrence College. She also privately consults in the publishing and entertainment industry.

    Refund Policy: No refunds are given on one-day intensives, advanced classes, and yearlong classes where space is limited. 100% refund before 1st class (minus $50 administrative and registration fee), 50% refund after 1st class (minus $50 registration fee), no refunds after 2nd class for all other workshops.
