Instructor: Carla Carlson
11 sessions, $660

In this class we will read and consider model lyric essays by well known poets and writers such as Anne Carson and Annie Dillard in conjunction with weekly exercises designed to help each student access their unique voice, and endless material. We will break out of old habits of language in order to create something unpinned down yet vital. Writers can expect to generate five linked poems or one long essay in verse over the course of five weeks.

Carla Carlson is the author of Love and Oranges, a poetry chapbook. Some of her recently published poems can be viewed at Statorec.com. She teaches poetry classes at the Writing Institute at Sarah Lawrence College, and at the Hudson Valley Writers Center in Sleepy Hollow, NY, where she co-runs a monthly submission cooperative. She and her husband live in Bronxville, NY.
