The Writing Institute at Sarah Lawrence College is pleased to announce its fifth annual Publish and Promote Your Book Conference on Saturday, June 23rd.  This comprehensive publishing conference for serious writers will be held at the Sarah Lawrence College campus, located 30 minutes from Midtown Manhattan.

Highlights of the conference include a series of interactive panel discussions with prominent New York City literary agents, major publishing house editors, and public relations and social media experts.  Participants will also have the rare opportunity to promote their books to different agents and editors in pitch sessions. Those who have registered for this will have the opportunity to discuss their work with three agents/editors for 10 minutes each. Space is limited.

The fee for each pitch meeting with agents and/or editors is $65.

Be advised Pitch Appointments fill VERY FAST. We urge you to review the Pitch Takers on our Conference page and also research their agency or publishing company websites. Make the best choice for your genre and theme. Sign up quickly. We do not make recommendations for whom to choose for your pitch as you know your writing better than anyone else does.

Maximum of 3 pitch signups per attendee. Pitch Sessions are approximately 10-minutes in length.

Please note, due to the popularity of our Pitch Sessions, some Pitch Appointments may take place during the afternoon conference session causing you to miss a part of a panel or talk. (No refunds are provided for a missed portion of the conference.)

There are three Preparing Your Pitch sessions you can choose from. They will be held Wednesday, June 12th, Wednesday, June 20th, and Friday, June 22nd, to assist participants in crafting their pitches ahead of the conference. You must be registered for at least one pitch session to attend.

Your pitch is the verbal presentation you’ll give to each agent/editor you meet with and should include relevant information about your book and your bio, including your name and your book’s title. We ask that you type up your pitch—12 point font, double-spaced, and keep it to less than one page—so that the agent/editor you’re meeting with can refer to it during and after your verbal presentation. Bring 2 copies of your pitch sheet and 2 copies of 3-5 pages of your book to the conference on June 23. Please give one copy of each to the Registration Table when you check-in.  Want to practice your pitch and receive tips to help you draft it? Sign up for one of our Prep for Your Pitch workshops during the week before the conference.

Lunch is provided. Seating is limited. Early registration is recommended.
