    Sarah Lawrence College
    1 Mead Way

    United States

    Instructor: Genevieve Pfeiffer
    Length: 5 sessions, $450
    Mondays, 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM

This class is open to writers of any genre and any level. It is a class on meditation and precision as much as it is on playfulness. Imagery, when practiced accurately, is a threshold for the reader to enter the moment. We will learn to notice details and describe them, as Stephen Dobyns writes, with the “best words [in the] best order.”

Accuracy depends on play as well as exercise—so we will play. We will work and re-work ‘the thing’ through various lenses until we discover the thing as it is (not necessarily as we want it to be). When we make this discovery our writing begins to breath, and stand on its own.
Genevieve Pfeiffer is a poet, editor, and educator with a nonfiction habit. She currently serves as a Creative Director for a start-up non-profit, FitFund, and has facilitated workshops with both young children and incarcerated women. Her work has appeared in BlazeVox, Stone Canoe, Crack the Spine and So to Speak, a feminist journal for language and art. She received her MFA from Sarah Lawrence College. You may find her often in trees or online at BlackWidowProse.
